It ain’t over till the fat lady sings. Unfortunately, these are words a Burriville high school basketball team should have lived by.
Imagine dong all the hard work to win a state championship and then throwing it away at the last second. Well that’s what happened to Rhode Island high school team Burrillville in the finals against Chariho.
It all began when a Burrillville player picked off a Chariho inbound pass with the lead and just four seconds left. The player threw the ball up in the air in celebration which was the worst possible thing to do.
The tossed ball ended up in the hands of a Chariho player who was able to call for a timeout with less than a second on the clock. Chariho was able to draw up one final attempt at a game-winning shot and they hit a lay-up to defeat Burrillville for the Rhode Island D-III state championship:
