Duke Outlasts Wisconsin For 5th NCAA Title, Tyus Jones Named MOP

NCAA Championship Duke 2015When thinking of one-and-done players on the collegiate level, most fans would point to John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats.

But there is a new king of the 1 year NCAA players….Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils.

Playing with only 8 scholarship players, 4 of which were elite level freshmen, the Duke Blue Devils outlasted the Wisconsin Badgers 68-63 Monday night to earn the program’s 5th National Title.

6’11 Duke freshman center Jahlil Okafor was outplayed by NCAA POY Frank Kaminsky for most of the night but scored 2 key buckets late over the Badgers’ big man, to help turn a one time 9 point deficit into an 8 point lead with just over 1 minute remaining.

Wisconsin made a valiant comeback led by Kaminsky(21 points, 11 rebounds) but was ultimately done in by the late play of Duke freshman Tyus Jones, who scored a team high 23 points and was named the 2015 Final Four Most Outstanding Player.

Fellow Duke frosh Justise Winslow(11 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks), Okafor(10 pts), and Grayson Allen(16 points) led the way for Duke.

The win gives legendary coach Mike Kryzyewski his 5th National Title, moving him past a tie with Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp(4) into 2nd place all time, but still a distance from UCLA coach John Wooden, who won 10 NCAA Titles in the 60’s and 70’s.

Congrats to Duke and Coach K for an amazing Tourney run to the 2015 NCAA Championship….
