Former Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt is expected to be named the next head coach of Miami Hurricanes football. This comes just three days after Richt and Georgia decided to mutually part ways. The U’s football program could use a shot in the arm in the wake of the Al Golden era; an era that saw a 58-0 loss this season to Clemson.
Richt was an assistant coach at Florida State before taking the Georgia job. He won two SEC championships with the Bulldogs but none since 2005. He also led the program to six SEC East division titles and won SEC coach of the year in 2002 and 2005.
The Hurricanes have not made a major bowl game since after the 2003 season, when they played Florida State in the Orange Bowl. Miami has not won a bowl game since 2006, having lost five in a row.
Richt brings some winning pedigree back to The U. It’s also familiar territory for him as he Quarterbacked the ‘Canes from 1979-82.
