Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has suffered a potentially season-ending fractured neck in a single-car crash last week.
Pierre-Paul will be visiting with neck specialists to get their opinions, but he will likely need surgery.
“As we stated last week following the news of Jason’s auto accident, our immediate concern was for both Jason and his passenger,” general manager Jason Licht said. “While Jason was treated and released in South Florida the same day of the accident, we wanted to ensure that our medical team had an opportunity to perform a thorough evaluation here in Tampa, and that process is currently ongoing.”
The single-car wreck took place last Thursday in Broward County and JPP was treated at a hospital. According to multiple reports, he was not accused of any crime and was not speeding at the time of the crash.
Pierre-Paul recorded 12.5 sacks last season and played in all 16 games for the Buccaneers.
