The Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin has been suspended 4 games after violating the NFL’s drug policy. Martin said he will be entering a treatment facility in order to “receive the help I truly need” and will not be appealing his ban.

“Doug has been a valued member of our organization for the past five seasons and we respect and support his decision to seek help,” general manager Jason Licht said in a statement. “Right now, he is working through issues that are much larger than the game of football. Our primary concern is that he takes this time to focus on getting the help that he needs in order to move forward with his personal and professional life.”

Doug Martin will lose at least $1.5 million in base salary for the final game of this season and the first three games of next season. However, that number could grow substantially. According to ESPN, his 2017 salary of $7 million is no longer guaranteed as a result of the suspension.

Martin is in the first year of a five-year, $35.8 million contract that included $15 million in guaranteed salaries and bonuses. But now, with the 2017 salary no longer guaranteed, Martin is in danger of losing the entire $7 million salary for the 2017 season.
