Maple Leafs’ Jonathan Bernier Responds to Spitting Incident

Toronto Maple Leafs Jonathan Bernier will now be looking for a better way to pass time when playing back-up.

For those who have not heard, Bernier was hanging out on the bench on Monday when he spit just as a Tampa Bay Lightning ice crew member skated by the bench. Lucky for us, the incident was caught on tape.

His reaction is priceless. Obviously he wasn’t trying to hit the crew member, he just couldn’t have timed the spit any worse if he tried.

After the game, Jonathan Bernier was quick to make amends admitting that things could have been much worse.

“Obviously I felt really bad. I actually met the guy after and gave him a stick,” Bernier told TSN’s Mark Masters. “I couldn’t see the guy because the astronaut was dancing next to me. The good thing he said was it wasn’t his first time.

“Thank God it didn’t hit him in the face, though.”

This may be the last time we see Bernier spit on the ice.
