During last nights preseason game between the Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens, Max Domi was ejected for sucker-punching Aaron Ekblad.
Roberto Luongo was unimpressed with Domi and didn’t hesitate to make his feelings known.
“It was a bit of a gutless play. You don’t do those types of things,” Luongo told reporters. “I’m sure the league will look at it, and we definitely won’t forget about it.
“You don’t do that. You respect your opponents, and if your opponent doesn’t want to engage in a fight, that’s no reason to drop your glove and punch him square in the face for no reason.”
Ekblad was pulled from the game by the league and sent through the concussion protocol, which he passed, and the Panthers says his nose was not broken. As for Max Domi, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety will be holding a hearing today.
