Depending on who and what you believe, there are many reasons why Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao hasn’t happened until 2015. One such reason was an alleged disagreement over drug testing and that has resurfaced here again to a degree.
Pacquiao’s camp has proposed a $5 million fine for either side if they were to fail a drug test in advance of the May 2 bout. That doesn’t mean the fight would be off, just that someone would owe the other $5 million. However, this proposition doesn’t appeal to Floyd as he rejected it.
Floyd Mayweather has formally rejected Manny Pacquiao’s offer of a $5 million penalty clause should either fighter fail a XXX test before or after their May 2 mega-fight, Pacquiao’s advisor, Michael Koncz, told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday.
Pacquiao, according to Koncz, had suggested a contractual agreement that would force either the Filipino star or Mayweather, the world’s top pound-for-pound boxer, to pay the other man in the event of a positive test.
“It was very simple,” Koncz said by telephone. “If Manny failed a test, he would have to pay $5 million. If Floyd failed, he would have to pay $5 million.”
