North Vancouver’s Jordy Bellerive is among 3 Lethbridge hockey players who were injured at bachelor party.
Jordy Bellerive, a Pittsburgh Penguins prospect, was injured after a fire broke out at a bachelor party he was attending Saturday night in Calgary with teammate Ryan Vandervlis and former Hurricanes skater Matt Alfaro.
According to Calgary EMS, the incident happened shortly before midnight on Friday. EMS said the patients — one in serious condition, one in serious, potentially life-threatening condition, and one in critical life-threatening condition — where rushed to Foothills hospital by ambulance.
Early Sunday afternoon, Cochrane RCMP said in a media release three people were injured Friday night when a “substance was placed in a fire pit that caused an explosion.”
The RCMP did not reveal the identities of the people involved, but we do know Bellerive was amongst the injured and that he is expected to make a full recovery.
The Penguins released a statement Sunday, indicating assistant general manager Bill Guerin has been in contact with Bellerive:
“The Pittsburgh Penguins have been in direct contact with prospect forward Jordy Bellerive since he was injured in an incident on Saturday night. Assistant general manager Bill Guerin has spoken with Bellerive, who is in good spirits and expected to make a full recovery.”
The 19-year-old scored 46 goals and 46 assists over 71 games in the Western Hockey League with Lethbridge this season. Last September he has also signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent.
