After 14 years of being an analyst with the NFL Network, Mike Mayock is the new general manager of the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are expected to announce his hiring today.
Mayock had a brief NFL career. He was selected 10th by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1981 draft and appeared in nine games for the New York Giants from 1982-83. In 2004, he was hired as an analyst for the NFL Network.
He will replace Reggie McKenzie, whom the Raiders fired on Dec. 10.
The Raiders finished 4-12 and have the No. 4 overall pick in the draft, as well as the first-round picks belonging to the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears. Mayock will have a chance to play a critical role in rebuilding the team. It’s a tall task, but it’s one he seems capable of handling.
