According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Tom Brady the quarterback for the Patriots, is looking for a new contract for the 2018 season and is planning on returning to the team despite earlier reports he hasn’t committed to playing in 2018, Rapoport reported he will, in fact, suit up.
“Tom Brady is going to play in 2018,” Rapoport said on NFL Network. “He said it. Everyone close to him has said it. Everyone I’ve spoken to has said it. The Patriots are going forward with the very strict and stern belief that he will be playing for 2018.”
Brady’s current deal is up after the 2019 season, but the Patriots have a history of extending his deal with two years remaining on the standing contract. Brady’s current annual salary is $14 million. That being said, neither Rapoport nor Garafolo believes Wednesday’s reports represent a ploy by Brady to expedite those talks. The issue is not considered pressing right now, but it is something Brady is interested renegotiating.
Whether Brady lands a new contract or not, he’s almost certain to have a new quarterback under his wing this season.
