U.S. Olympic Rowers’ New Uniforms Protect from Sewage

With concerns regarding the quality and safety of the water in Rio, the US Olympic rowing team will be fitted with new uniforms to help protect them.

Rio had promised to clean up Guanabara Bay but that apparently has not happened. According to a pediatrician in Rio, Olympic athletes will literally be swimming in human crap.

“Foreign athletes will literally be swimming in human crap, and they risk getting sick from all those microorganisms,” Dr. Daniel Becker said. “It’s sad but also worrisome.”

Since Rio has not taken the necessary steps to protect the athletes, the US Rowing team approached a Charlotte textile company and asked them to design a seamless uni-suit for the team in just 45 days.

“We put a waterproofing agent on (them) so the suit is waterproof, so even though it is getting wet it doesn’t absorb water,” Keith Sherill of Charlotte-based textile company Speizman International told WTHR.

“So that being said, it’s almost virtually always dry.”

The maker hopes his design will become the new standard for every rowing team in the country.
