Depending on who you ask, the World Baseball Classic is a good idea. Unfortunately for Major League Baseball, that’s not what the masses think. The international baseball tournament, which began in 2006, was supposed to draw global interest in the sport. It hasn’t quite panned out that way.
Underwhelming support in the United States and lack of revenue may for the 2017 tournament to be the final installment. It’s unlikely that much will change revenue-wise between now and March 2017, so this may be the final stanza.
