The Toronto Blue Jays have officially exercised their 2016 contract options on Jose Bautista, R.A. Dickey and Edwin Encarnacion less than 24 hours after Mark Shapiro was introduced as the club’s new president and CEO.
All-star Bautista will earn 14 million next season and Encarnacion will make $10 million. As for 41 year-old R.A. Dickey, he will make $16 million in 2016.
Both Bautista and Encarnacion are among the game’s top right-handed power hitters. They will hit free agency after the 2016 season unless they sign an extension with the Blue Jays within the next year.

As far as Maicer Ixturis is concerned, the Blue Jays declined the $3 million option and instead paid him a $1 million buyout. Ixturius missed the entire 2015 season after suffering a shoulder injury during spring training.
