You gotta love the kids named Shaq. Obviously, with Shaquille O’Neal’s name booming all over the place in the 1990’s and then on, it’s no surprise there will be a bunch of parents everywhere at the time giving their child probably one of the coolest names in the book.

This Shaq, who holds the last name Thompson, could be seeing himself with the Boston Red Sox. According to weei.com’s Full Count, Boston drafted Thompson in the 18th round and are set to sign him, as he is one of the fastest players in this class.

However, the thing is, Thompson is better as football player. He was ranked as the top recruit in California. Rivals.com ranked him the No. 1 safety in the country. With that, Thompson committed to the University of California. However, he wanted to play baseball and Cal really didn’t like that.

With that, he ended up going with Washington. Thompson’s plan is to play baseball during the summer and then do the rest of school stuff after that. However, it seems like sometime soon Thompson will realize that football is the way to go.

The Red Sox won’t go for more than $100,000 on him, as Hardball Talk estimates, so it looks like Shaq would rather go for the millions and head to the NFL. He can be a first-round draft pick if he really thought about it.

It isn’t for sure if he really is committed towards baseball, but we’ll see. He has the raw talent and ability to be a solid baseball player.

However, he will definitely need a lot of help. And if he’s a poor at fielding, I guess baseball will also be using the “Hack-a-Shaq” term as well.
