The Chicago Cubs have now won the bidding to get 20-year-old Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler, according to ESPN Chicago.
Soler will reportedly come to the US soon and then take his physical. Although the terms of his deal have not been released yet, it’s said that the rumored deal is for nine years worth $30 million.
Soler worked with several teams last Wednesday had until June 2 to sign a contract. July 2 is the date before the new CBA deal, which means teams can bid on a foreign player for any amount that they like. However, after that date, MLB will only prohibit the bids of more than $2.9 million.
Soler looks like he can definitely help the Cubs. He has great size at 6-3 and 225-pounds. He is projected to be a right outfielder and has five-tool potential, as ESPN Chicago reported.
Congrats to the Cubs and for Soler to land in the big leagues!
