Los Angeles right-hander, Garrett Richards, is suffering a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow and is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Richards was scheduled to start Friday but the club scratched him, citing dehydration and fatigue.
The tear was found Thursday and should Garrett Richards opt for surgery, he is currently seeking a second opinion, he will not return until the middle of 2017.
Unfortunately this is a big loss for the Angels, a team who has already had a rough go this season with injuries.
Richards is a former first-round draft choice, and owned a 1-3 record with a 2.34 ERA in six starts before his injury. Over his six seasons in the major leagues, he has averaged a 3.58 ERA and has twice led the league in wild pitches.
