Miguel Cabrera Has Won The First Triple Crown Since 1967

October 3, 2012 – Evan Stambaugh

Miguel Cabrera, the Tigers slugger, won the Triple Crown tonight. The Triple Crown is the first since Carl Yastrzemski did it back in 1967. Cabrera ended the season with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs, and 139 RBI. Because of the Triple Crown achievement, Cabrera should lock up the MVP. Sorry Mike Trout, but you’ll have many more opportunities for that in your career.

Speaking of Trout, he finished second in batting average with .326. In addition, Josh Hamilton and Curtis Granderson tied for second in home runs with 43. And Hamilton finished second in RBI with 129.

Cabrera and the Tigers start their postseason with the ALDS matchup against the red-hot Oakland A’s on Saturday.
