The St. Louis Cardinals filled a hole in their starting rotation by agreeing to a five-year, $80 million deal with right-handed pitcher Mike Leake.
The deal also includes a full no-trade clause and a mutual option for a sixth year that could increase the value to $94 million.
There will be a press conference today at 2pm to confirm the signing.
Mike Leake was 11-10 with a 3.70 ERA in 30 starts for the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants in 2015 with 119 strikeouts and 49 walks in 192 innings. Over those last three seasons he averaged 31 starts, 200 innings, 135 strikeouts, 12 wins and a 3.59 ERA.
