Chase Utley has been one of the key faces of the recent Philadelphia Phillies core, but age has caught up to him. The 36 year old is not what he used to be, but was a tremendous player in his day. Deciding that they’ve gotten all they can get out of Utley, the Phillies have dealt Utley to the Dodgers.
The Phillies have agreed to trade Chase Utley to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to multiple reports.
Neither club had announced a deal as of first pitch of Wednesday night’s Phillies-Blue Jays game at Citizens Bank Park. Utley could be seen seated in the home dugout at the start of the game. He was not in the lineup.
ESPN.com cited an anonymous source as saying the trade should be completed “within 24 hours.” The agreed-upon deal will reportedly send two minor leaguers back to the Phillies. The Phillies will chip in $2 million of the roughly $6 million Utley is owed over the rest of this season, according to the reports.
