The former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, or Big Papi as most know him, will have his No. 34 on the facade in right field at Fenway Park. His number permanently retired before Boston takes on the Los Angeles Angels tonight.
Ortiz joined the Red Sox in 2003 and went on to be a driving force on three World Series championships, hit more than 500 home runs and created countless memorable moments.
Big Papi already has a bridge in Boston named after him and yesterday Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced that Yawkey Way Extension, a street near Fenway Park, will now be called the David Ortiz Drive.
In anticipation of tonight the team posted a video tribute featuring some of his greatest career hits in red and white.
