Ronda Rousey will be the first mixed martial artist to ever grace the cover of The Ring magazine since its debut in 1922. She will be featured on their January 2016 issue, the second woman ever to grace its cover since its inception. Cathy “Cat” Davis was the only other woman to ever be on the cover back in 1978.
Rousey is featured in a boxing robe with one MMA glove and one boxing glove with the caption “She Conquered MMA. Is Boxing Next?”… even though Rousey has never boxed professionally.
There are a number of highly negative comments from boxing fans regarding the Instagram post which is not surprising given the general lack of respect for MMA fighters. Also, many see this as a sign of disrespect to all female boxers whom they believe deserve the cover of the The Ring more than an MMA fighter.
