It’s official, not that it wasn’t before, but Conor McGregor is out!
UFC President Dana White just appeared on Good Morning America to announce the new main event for UFC 200: Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier!
These two guys hate each other so this new main event will rekindle a rivalry between them.
Back in 2014, following an “Ultimate Media Day” at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for UFC 178, Jones and Cormier met on stage in a traditional faceoff, but things got ugly in a hurry. Jones threw punches at Cormier and Cormier placed his hands on Jones’ throat. Both were eventually fined 10 percent of their fight purse by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Daniel Cormier was supposed to face Jon Jones at UFC 197, but a leg injury forced him to withdraw three weeks prior to the event. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI next week, but he recently said that his recovery has gone well.
“Me and my team have been working extensively on a strategy and game plan to beat Daniel Cormier,” Jones said. “I got thrown a last minute change of opponent and felt I did great with it, given the circumstances. I’m ready to get back to my original plan, which is to dominate Daniel Cormier, again.”
Cormier posted this to his Instagram on Wednesday.
This should be fun!!
