Jordan Spieth decided to quit school at the University of Texas to become a full time golf professional at the ripe old age of 19. After two years on tour people are already calling him ‘the natural’ given his consistent technique and his maturity and calm presence. He was considered one of 4 or 5 favorites coming into the 2015 Masters and he hasn’t disappointed. In fact he’s done the exact opposite in setting Masters record over the first two days of the tournament. No one in the history of the Masters has ever shot 14 under after 36 holes, where Spieth currently resides.
Spieth, at 21 years old, is 14-under for the tournament going into the weekend. The previous 36-hole record of 13-under, set by Raymond Floyd, stood for 39 years. Over his first two rounds he made 15 birdies and one bogey. Only three other players are within 10 shots of him.(via)
Rory McIlroy who was widely considered the favorite coming in because of his #1 World Ranking is currently 14 strokes behind Spieth. In fact the only player looking close enough to touch Spieth is Charley Hoffman, and even he would be surprised if he could continue is stellar play to be within 4 strokes of Spieth.
Let’s hope ‘The Natural’ continues this blazing play reminiscent of a young Tiger Woods.
