Cristiano Ronaldo has edged out Lionel Messi and Gianluigi Buffon.
After leading Real Madrid’s march to the summit of La Liga and a second consecutive Champions League title, Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo won UEFA’s Men’s Player of the Year award on Thursday for the third time in four seasons.
Ronaldo scored 42 goals in 46 matches this past season. Even though Messi had 54 goals in 52 matches, what seemed to put Ronaldo over the top was winning both the UCL and La Liga.
The Madrid and Portugal star is also strongly favoured to get a fifth FIFA world player prize in October.
