Former Liverpool and France striker Djibril Cisse was one of four people taken into custody and questioned in regards to the blackmail investigation that allegedly involves a sex tape featuring Mathieu Valbiuena. Cisse was later released without being charged but the other three individuals remain in police custody.
The source in the investigation said the existence of the tape, video footage of sex acts recorded on a mobile phone, “has yet to be proven”. The investigation entails a suspected attempt to blackmail France international Mathieu Valbuena. Extortion carries a minimum five-year sentence.
Cisse and Valbuena played together from 2006 to 2009 and were part of the French team for the 2010 World Cup. Cisse, 34, issued a complaint in 2008 after alleging he was the victim of a blackmail threat involving a sex tape.
Lawyers for Valbuena, will not comment while the investigation is under way.
