The footballer Adam Johnson, a former member of the English national team, is facing up to ten years in jail after being found guilty of sexual activity with a 15-year-old schoolgirl.
The girl told police that 28 year-old Adam Johnson put his hands down her pants and that she performed oral sex on him. He was cleared of the oral sex charge but found guilty of engaging in a sexual activity with her.
The judge told Johnson a prison sentence was “an almost inevitable outcome,” a sentence carrying somewhere between 5 to 10 years. The judge told Johnson to say goodbye to his daughter because he would “not see her for some time”. Johnson’s daughter was seven weeks old at the time of his arrest, one year ago.
The victim was a season ticket holder who regularly waited outside the club’s Stadium for a picture with him. The pair exchanged messages until Johnson met with her to give her an autographed jersey.
During the trial he admitted kissing and sending her explicit messages at which time he was fired from Sunderland.
Adam Johnson’s final game for Sunderland was on February 6th, the weekend before his trial. His contract was torn up 24 hours after he pleaded guilty on February 10th.
Johnson’s attorney informed told the court that they would appeal.
