Last night the New Orleans Pelicans lost to the Atlanta Hawks 121-115. The Pelicans have now officially become the biggest underachieving team in the NBA at 0-5 to start the season. A season in which many expected the Pelicans to build on last season’s turnaround to make the playoffs with a better record and MVP type performances from Anthony Davis. The man who has continually improved year over year since being drafted a few short seasons ago.
After bulking up in the offseason, it was felt Davis would be a significant contender for MVP of the league. New Orleans fans and boosters have been unpleasantly surprised with Davis and the Pelicans play to open the season. A lot of folks who made wagers at Betway.com on the Pelicans can also be added to that unhappy campers list. But there was a glass half-full discussion last night amongst experts after the close of yet another loss for the Pelicans. Anthony Davis brought his all-star and possibly future MVP self to the game this time. And then some.
A.Davis – 43 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks, 3 assists. Boom.
It’s way too early to tell if Davis has broken out of his slump and will maintain that type of production, but as we’ve seen over the past two seasons, Davis is far too talented to expect he won’t put up some pretty big numbers on a regular basis for the remainder of the season. Will it be enough to make a run at MVP? Time will tell. Curry is certainly doing his part to lock down the award for a second straight season.
