The world’s rarest and most valuable LeBron James basketball trading card is up for grabs.
The autographed rookie card is expected to sell for as much as $200,000 in an online auction ending October 1st.
Why is a 15 year old card worth so much you ask? Well, according to sports memorabilia expert Ken Goldin it is highly unusual to see a modern card sell for this much, but many high-end buyers are interested in these cards in order to have the best collections. The card is from the 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection and includes an authentic patch from one of James’ game-worn jerseys from that season as well as his actual autograph.
“It’s sorta like finding Willy Wonka’s golden ticket. It really is the Holy Grail of modern trading cards.”
Goldin claims this one-of-a-kind card is the most valuable LeBron collector’s item on the market. A lucky person pulled it out of a pack in 2003 and held on to it for more than 10 years and now it is worth even more than a recent piece of LeBron memorabilia.
“If you had the jersey he wore in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, this card is worth more,” Goldin said.
As of Monday, and with only 11 days remaining in the auction, bids have reached $65,000.
