For fantasy football freaks, you know that, while not a huge name, Fred Jackson is a solid performer. He’s been that way forever in fantasy and in real life as well. Granted he’s a 34 year old running back (which is unheard of), but he’s not an every down guy, which is how he has managed to stay fresh. In a shock today, the Bills announced they have released Jackson.
Roster must make a cut from 90 to 75 in a few days, and Jackson didn’t not survive that round.
The Buffalo Bills released Fred Jackson on Monday, ending the veteran running back’s nine-year career with the team.
Jackson, who entered training camp as the NFL’s oldest running back at age 34, was a team captain, a fan favorite and the franchise’s third-leading rusher behind Thurman Thomas and O.J. Simpson.
“Today, we had to make the difficult decision to release Fred Jackson,” Bills general manager Doug Whaley said in a statement. “He had an incredible career for this organization for the past 10 years.
