Thanks to injuries and subpar play, Andrew Luck had a forgettable 2015 campaign for the Colts. The team took a step back, but their hoping to get back on track next season.
If Luck need any incentive to have a strong 2016, he just got it. The Colts just locked him up longterm in a big way. The two have come to terms on a 6-year, $140 million contract. We knew it would be in that range, but to see it is staggering. He now has to go out there and prove it on the field.
The numbers set several records. The $87 million in injury guarantees ($47 million of which is guaranteed at signing) far surpasses the $65 million that Eli Manning got last year. The $23.3 million a year surpasses Aaron Rodgers’ $22 million and Joe Flacco’s $22.133 million. The $140 million total surpasses Jay Cutler’s $126.7 million.
