Even though he’s 34, DeMarcus Ware is still regarded as one of the best defensive linemen in the game today. He was a critical piece to the Broncos’ Super Bowl victory a few years ago, which was primarily predicated on defense.
Ware took to Twitter this afternoon to somewhat shockingly announce his retirement from the game. Like many players who retire when they are still able to play, Ware cites long-term health as a reason why he is walking away.
“Tempting opportunities still present themselves for me to play and I feel better than I have in years. However, long term health and quality of life outweigh the spark and passion to play that I once had,” he wrote, in part, on Twitter.
Sure, 34 isn’t exactly 24, but he definitely has something left in the tank. This is something the NFL probably won’t be able to get away from.
