The Falcons backfield has been missing some punch and power the last few years since RB Michael Turner left the team, but this year seems like a good bet for a new piece to arise in the Atlanta Falcons offense.
Last year, Freeman backed up RB Steven Jackson as the Falcons struggled mightily all season to get some rhythm. From the moment they got Freeman, it seemed like the Falcons were ready to give him a chance once he learned enough from Jackson but the drafting of RB Tevin Coleman in the 3rd round doesn’t show much confidence in freeman’s prospects.
That has not discouraged Freeman at all though.
I take a lot of pride in being the go-to guy. This has always been my dream. I never had a dream to come to the NFL and play second to any man.
The Falcons offense will still run through QB Matt Ryan and WR Julio Jones, with Roddy White certainly helping out but the Falcons need consistency in the running game. Even RB Antoine Smith figures to play out a little bit in this competition. This is sure to play out as an interesting battle all throughout training camp with Devonta as the front runner but many expecting Coleman to overtake him.
