Suspended Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested early Saturday morning in Oklahoma on charges of driving under the influence, his second DUI in three years.
The 25 year old received, who was a first round pick in the 2012 NFL draft, was arrested at 4:45 am and was taken to a nearby station where he was booked.
Blackom was suspended indefinitely from the NFL since last year after multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. In July 2014 he was arrested after police found marijuana in his car during a traffic violation stop and in January, Jaguars owner Shahid Khan planned on Blackmon’s being a part of the team for 2015.
“I’m very optimistic. I think he’s paid his dues,” Khan said in an interview with Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union. “I think he’s got his life together. I think he can be a role model for people who have gone through hard times. We’re waiting for him.”
He applied for reinstatement prior to this season, but was denied by the league. Any chance of a return to the field for Blackmon is likely over following his most recent arrest.
