Jimmy Smith Suspended Four Games for PED Use

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith will miss the remainder of the season. During Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions he suffered a torn Achilles, but as it turns out he may have had to sit out the final four games of the regular season regardless of his injury.

According ESPN’s Adam Schefter Jimmy Smith has been suspended four games for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. The Ravens were informed of Smith’s pending suspension last week and Smith chose to appeal it, but will now withdraw that appeal since he’ll be put on injured reserve and can serve the suspension while sidelined.

Smith was at least the second player last week who was informed he had been suspended for PED use. He has never been previously suspended by the NFL, and his appeal seems to signal that he may feel it was unjustified and that he disagrees with the punishment.

Look for rookie cornerback Marlon Humphrey to step in while Smith serves his suspension and recovers from his injury.
