According to Johnnny Manziel’s father, Paul Manziel, his son is in trouble. He has now tried to get him into rehab twice this past week but Johnny refuses to go. His father is concerned that he could die if he doesn’t get the help he needs.
Paul Manziel spoke with Dallas Morning News and said “I truly believe if they can’t get him help, he won’t live to see his 24th birthday.” He said the family tried to get him into a local addiction facility on Saturday, after the incident with Colleeen Crowley, but he refused to stay. He also tried to have his son admitted to a psychiatric and chemical dependency hospital on Tuesday, but Manziel was allowed to leave, even though his father told officers that he believed he was suicidal.
Johnny Manziel told TMZ Sports that allegations that he struck his ex-girlfriend “didn’t happen.” He also claims that he is, “Completely stable. I’m safe and secure.”
Earlier today, the quarterback’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, cut ties with him. He released the following statement:
“It has become painfully obvious” that Manziel’s future “rests solely in his own hands.”
“His family and I have gone to great lengths to outline the steps we feel he must take to get his life in order. Accountability is the foundation of any relationship, and without it, the function of my work is counterproductive,” Burkhardt said.
“I truly wish the best for Johnny and sincerely hope he can, and will, find the kind of peace and happiness he deserves.”
It is also expected that the Cleveland Browns will release Johnny Manziel this March.
