Man Found Guilty Of Murdering Adrian Peterson’s Son

A South Dakota jury has found Joseph Patterson guilty of murdering the 2-year-old son of Adrian Peterson.

Patterson was on trial for the October 2013 murder of Tyrese Ruffin. The jury deliberated for only 5 hours before finding him guilty of second-degree murder, first degree manslaughter and aggravated battery against a person under the age of three. Joseph Patterson is now awaiting sentencing and facing life in prison.

Joseph Patterson was dating the mother of Tyrese Ruffin at the time. Authorities alleged that he assaulted Tyrese while alone with him. The autopsy concluded Ruffin died from four blows to the head causing his brain to bleed while Patterson’s defense claim that Tyrese choked on a fruit snack and his injuries were a result of him administering CPR.

Adrian Peterson found out about Tyerese only two months before his death. The first time he actually met him was the day before he died.

Adrian Peterson, running back for the Minnesota Vikings, has not led an easy life. At the young age of 7 Peterson witnessed a drunk driver kill his older brother; three years later his father was sent to jail for 10 years for money laundering and in 2007 his stepbrother was murdered. A year after Tyrese was murdered, Peterson was suspended for an entire season when he pled no contest to misdemeanor assault charges after he injured his 4-year-old son while disciplining him.

On Sunday, Ashley, Adrian Peterson’s wife, gave birth a son, Axyl Eugene Peterson. This is Peterson’s seventh child and second wife.
