The New England Patriots formally released running back Montee Ball on Tuesday.
Montee Ball was arrested Feb. 5 after an alleged dispute with his girlfriend in a downtown Madison, Wisconsin, hotel. He was charged Monday with a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct for his argument with his girlfriend. She alleges he picked her up and threw her onto a table at a hotel. He was also charged with battery for allegedly striking her in the face in an incident that took place five days earlier.
He is due back in court March 1.
Montee Ball was a second-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2013. The Patriots picked him up in 2015 and signed him to their practice squad, but never played.
