In a year where it feels as if so many high-profile athletes and entertainers have passed away, you think people would be sensitive of this topic. But not the person who hacked the NFL’s twitter account today.
On Tuesday morning, a hacker was able to somehow secure control of the league’s twitter account and decided to tweet that Roger Goodell had died. The tweet read:
We regret to inform our fans that our commissioner, Roger Goodell, has passed away. He was 57. #RIP
That tweet received thousands of retweets and likes. Eight minutes later, the hacker followed that up with:
“Oi, I said Roger Goodell has died. Don’t delete that tweet”
And one minute later:
“OK, OK, you amateur detectives win. Good job”
Once the NFL was able to regain control, those three tweets were deleted. But not before a lot of embarrassment and frustration for the league.
