Josh Norman emerged as one of the premier defensive backs last year and he’ll be back with the Carolina Panthers for at least one more season. Today, the team placed the franchise tag on the cornerback.
The Panthers had until Tuesday afternoon to make this determination and have decided that, even at the price tag of nearly $14 million for one season, he’s worth bringing back.
Norman finished 2015 with four picks, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
The Panthers have placed the franchise tag on their emerging star cornerback before Tuesday’s deadline, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. The Panthers will continue to work on a long-term deal for Norman, but in the meantime are comfortable with a one-year salary of $13.952 million.
