Jerod Mayo was one of the bright young defensive players in the NFL not too long ago, but injuries have really taken a toll on his of late.
He was selected 10th overall in 2008 by the New England Patriots, but ended the season on injured reserved. At the age of 29, Mayo has decided he has had enough.
Linebacker Jerod Mayo will retire after eight years with the New England Patriots, he announced Tuesday via Instagram.
Mayo captioned the post, “Retiring a Patriot.”
Mayo, 29, finished last season on injured reserve for the third straight year after sustaining an injury during the Patriots’ win over the Chiefs in the divisional round of the playoffs. Mayo was due over $10 million in base salary and bonuses in 2016.
