It seemed grim initially, but it looks like Robert Griffin III will be hanging around in Washington, D.C. for the foreseeable future. There was uncertainty as to whether or not the club would pick up Griffin’s 2016 team option, which would guarantee him $16 million.
Today, the team announced that they are doing just that. Given this, it will be interesting to see if he’s still the team’s top choice at Quarterback.
The Washington Redskins picked up the fifth-year option on the contract of quarterback Robert Griffin III, the team announced Monday.
Washington had until May 3 to pick up the option, which will pay Griffin $16.1 million for the 2016 season. He is scheduled to make $3.27 million in base salary next season.
