It’s amazing that we’re nearly in June and the Jets and Ryan Fitzpatrick are still at at stalemate regarding his contract. You can argue that Ryan surprised many and over performed last season, but the Jets are playing it cautious. Despite this endless staring contest, Fitzpatrick says he’d like to return to the team.
“I had a great time with the guys last year and I want to continue doing this. I’m still preparing for the season,” Fitzpatrick said. “It’s been a process and the good thing about it is the discussions have been behind closed doors.”
Fitzpatrick remaining in New York is best for both parties. At this point, he’s probably better than Geno Smith, and if he were to leave, it would be tough to find a place to start at this juncture of the offseason. This is just one of those long, drawn-out disputes that will seem like a distant memory once the season rolls around.
