With so much coaching turnover each year in the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been a model of consistency in that regard. Mike Tomlin took over for Bill Cowher some years back and it’s tough to even recall who was the coach before Cowher.
This trend will continue in Pittsburgh as the Steelers have signed Tomlin to a contract extension.
Mike Tomlin, one of the NFL’s longest-tenured head coaches, signed a two-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday that will make him one of the top five highest-paid coaches in the NFL, a source told ESPN.
The source said the extension, which runs through the 2018 season, is worth at least $7 million per season, which vaults Tomlin into the top 5 in regard to coaching salaries.
In eight seasons with the Steelers, Tomlin has four AFC North titles, five playoff appearances and one Super Bowl win in two appearances.
