Peyton Manning’s decision to retire after winning his second Super Bowl seems like the perfect ending. One that Broncos fans know all about after having seen John Elway do the same thing just shy of 20 years ago. But that decision doesn’t sound as obvious as one would think.
According to Peyton’s agent, Tom Condon, Manning wanted to play this upcoming season. And wouldn’t you know, teams were interested in Manning’s services.
Appearing on The Business of Sports with Andrew Brandt, agent Tom Condon said that: (1) Peyton Manning told Condon, “I really like to play”; and (2) teams were interested in having Manning play for them.
This isn’t that surprising, as Peyton seems like the guy we have to drag away from the game for his own good. The Broncos winning it all had more to do with their historic defense than Peyton airing it out, so we’ve seen clear indications that Father Time was right around the corner. This is why the idea that other teams were interested is somewhat surprising.
