Tony Romo Would’ve Taken Pay Cut to Keep DeMarco Murray

usa-tony-romo-demarco-murray-cowboysDeMarco Murray leaving Dallas for Philadelphia basically came down to money. Dallas didn’t have enough of it available to pay Murray what he wanted and Philadelphia did. Hard to blame the 27-year old, since he’ll probably be obsolete in about 2-3 years.

Tony Romo is the Cowboys’ highest paid player, so contractual situations with others seem to come back to him since he’s making so much. Apparently, Romo was willing to take a pay cut in order to keep Murray. A little too late for that, Tony.

“DeMarco ended up asking me, ‘Why don’t you take a pay cut?’ I said, ‘I will. I would take a pay cut to go do this,’” Romo recalled. “I was like, ‘They’re going to restructure me.’ That’s the same thing in some ways, just for the salary cap purposes. He was like, ‘OK, now we’re back to being friends, again.’ I would take $5 million less if meant getting him back.
