The Vancouver Canucks have announced that Sven Baertschi will miss four-to-six weeks with a fractured jaw, which will luckily not require surgery.
The 25-year-old was in the midst of a breakout season, with eight goals and 10 assists in 30 games when he was injured Saturday night against the Calgary Flames. In a clearing attempt by Mark Giordano the puck deflected off the glass and ricocheted onto Baertschi’s face. He returned to Vancouver immediately.
The timing of the injury is especially poor for the Canucks given that Bo Horvat is already out for up to six weeks. Will the team be able to survive without Horvat and Baertschi, two of their top-three scorers, for the next 16+ games?
