Carey Price Wants to Stay in Montreal

After being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, Carey Price reiterated his desire to remain with the team in Montreal.

“I want to stay here,” Price said Monday, per John Lu of TSN. “I know we’ll figure out a way to make all the pieces fit and bring a championship here.”

As of 2018 Carey Price will become an unrestricted free agent with an option to sign a contract extension as early as July 1. He plans on getting into those discussions with Habs GM Marc Bergevin at that time.

Price, who turns 30 on Aug. 16, recorded a .933 save percentage against the Rangers. He will be making $7 million next season, though his salary cap hit is $6.5 million and could earn around $9 million, per season, on a new contract.

Despite their disappointing season, while addressing the media in their end-of-season interviews, players expressed disappointment in their early-exit but also a desire to improve. Along with Price, two pending unrestricted free agents Alexander Radulov and long-time Hab Andrei Markov also voiced their desire to stay in Montreal.

Stay tuned to see what the Canadiens’ next moves will be…
