After months of waiting, the NHL’s Las Vegas expansion franchise has finally revealed its name and team logo. Approximately 2,000 fans gathered in Toshiba Plaza. During the event, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman shared comments about the excitement of naming the 31st NHL team; General Manager George McPhee spoke about building a team and Bill Foley unveiled the team name.
“We want our team to be known for dedication, honor, strength, courage and a commitment to never give up – both on the ice and off,” said Foley. “We want our team to be committed to teamwork, service to this great city and integrity in all things – and we wanted a name and logo that represented all of this and was unique to Las Vegas and our community. Vegas Golden Knights is that name.”

The team’s secondary logo is an eight-pointed star that includes two crossed swords. It was designed to resemble the star on the iconic “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign:

In an official press release, team owner Bill Foley explained the reasoning behind the team name:
“Our name and our logo is really going to exhibit the highest element of the warrior class: the knight. The knight protects the unprotected. The knight defends the realm. The knight never gives up, never gives in, always advances, never retreats. That’s what our team is going to be.”
