NHL Power Rankings: February 14, 2013

Rank Team Name W-L Comments

1

Blackhawks

10-0-2 The Blackhawks are 10-0-2 to begin the season. The amazing part? Chicago has played 10 of their games on the road.

2

Devils

8-1-3 At 8-1-3, the Devils just keep chugging along and Martin Brodeur just keeps making things look easy.

3

Ducks

8-2-1 The Ducks may be the biggest surprise of the season. It will be interesting to see how long this lasts.

4

Bruins

8-1-1 Since a 7-4 loss to Buffalo roughly 10 days ago, Boston has given up two total goals since. That includes one goal against Buffalo Sunday night.

5

Canucks

7-2-2 A five game winning streak has put to rest the doubts that began the season.

6

Sharks

7-2-2 Despite a four game losing streak, they are still only a point away from second in the west.

7

Penguins

8-5-0 Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are leading the Pens to another playoff berth this season.

8

Maple Leafs

7-5-0 Is this a misprint? Are the Leafs really in contention for a playoff spot?

9

Lightning

6-5-0 Third place in the conference is where you want to be even if you have fewer points than the other division leaders.

10

Red Wings

7-4-1 A three game winning streak has launched them into second place in the Central.

11

Senators

6-4-2 Losing Jason Spezza for potentially the rest of the season may damage their chances going forward.

12

Predators

5-3-4 Having only played four of their twelve games at home, they are keeping themselves afloat until the schedule keeps them home more often.

13

Canadiens

6-4-1 P.K. Subban has flown out of the gate since being re-signed. His fresh legs will come in handy down the stretch.

14

 Blues

6-4-1 Losers of four straight, a promising start to the season is steadily going down the tubes.

15

Stars

6-5-1 Dallas has scored three or more goals in four of their last five games.

16

Oilers

5-4-3 Edmonton has been competitive this year and could be a dangerous team moving forward.

17

Rangers

6-5-0 Finally, the Rangers are in the top eight in the east.

18

Hurricanes

5-4-1 Getting five points in their last three games is a good sign for a team that started slowly.

19

Jets

5-5-1 They no longer have the league’s worst goals against average. That should translate into some more victories going forward.

20

Flyers

5-6-1 Finally starting to get healthy, the Flyers are rounding into a team that should be in the playoffs come April.

21

Coyotes

5-5-2 Phoenix followed up a game in which they gave up six goals with a shutout victory over San Jose. They are still fighting.

22

Sabres

5-7-1 Thomas Vanek is lighting the league on fire. However, they need to stop giving up three or more goals a game.

23

Wild

5-5-1 With 11 points through 11 games, they will hang squarely on the playoff bubble throughout the season.

24

Islanders

4-6-1 Giving up 15 shots to the opposing team at home should equal a win. However, the Islanders have made an art form of losing

25

Panthers

4-6-1 Inconsistent play has hampered them this season. An opening day win was followed by a five game losing streak. A couple of wins after that were followed by another loss.

26

Flames

3-4-2 The Flames can point to their home woes as the reason why they have only eight points so far this season.

27

Avalanche

4-6-0 Last place in the division is not where they want to be. Averaging 2.1 goals a game, they need to put some more pucks in the net.

28

Kings

3-5-2 If they don’t bust out of their slumber soon, it looks like L.A. will be handing their Stanley Cup over quickly.

29

Capitals

3-8-1 Adam Oates is quickly losing his team. Playing in a mediocre division, they should be better than 30th in the league in points.

30

Blue Jackets

3-7-2 Columbus, welcome back to the bottom of the barrel. Losers of three straight, it looks like another long year for hockey fans in Ohio.
